Analysis
Roll fit: a worked example
Zebra's limit is a 5.00 in outer diameter with 0.5 or 1 in cores (1.5 in and larger with adapters). Rollo publishes its 500-label 4x6 roll at 5.125 in OD on a 1.5 in core—so it will not close inside a ZD421d even with a core adapter. Shorter rolls, such as 250-label 4x6 rolls on 1 in cores, are the usual fit, but most generic sellers do not publish OD; check it before ordering. Fanfold stacks are another option and feed from the rear.
Desk footprint
With a roll inside, the footprint is the case itself: about 8.7 × 7.0 in (61 sq in). That is similar to external-feed printers once you add their label stacks, but it keeps labels enclosed from dust.
Compatibility notes and common mistakes
This part number (ZD4A042-D01E00EZ) includes Ethernet; Wi-Fi models use a different code. Bluetooth LE on the ZD421 is documented for the setup app.
