Analysis
The label lock-in, in plain terms
DYMO's guide says to use only authentic DYMO labels and that third-party label damage is not covered by warranty. Third-party sellers even mark their DYMO-size labels “NOT fit 5XL.” Budget for DYMO 1744907 4x6 rolls (220 labels per roll) as an ongoing cost, and keep a spare roll—you cannot substitute a generic label in a pinch.
Compatibility notes and common mistakes
Install DYMO Connect for Desktop before connecting the printer. For network use, connect via Ethernet (LAN).

- Will DYMO 4XL labels work in the 5XL?
- DYMO lists its 1744907 4x6 labels for both the 4XL and 5XL. Third-party “1744907-compatible” labels are generally marked as not fitting the 5XL.
Final recommendation
Only choose the 5XL if you accept DYMO-only labels; it's well built on paper but expensive to feed compared with generic-label printers.
